We Love Our Town
The Clean and Green Commission advocates for a clean, healthy, and biodiverse urban environment and promotes a culture of sustainability in the City of Fredericksburg by advising City Council and working with the City and community on various projects and on outreach, education, and innovation.
City Council Priorities
In December 2019, Fredericksburg City Council adopted the 100% Renewable Energy Resolution and committed to the goal of powering municipal operations with 100% renewable energy by 2035, or earlier.

Purpose
The purpose of the Clean and Green Commission is to work with the City of Fredericksburg to identify and enact clean, green and environmentally sustainable practices that foster a healthy environment for its citizens and future generations and serves as a model for the region.
Mission
The mission of the Clean and Green Commission is to promote a healthy and biodiverse urban environment and a culture of sustainability by leading projects and advising the City of Fredericksburg. The Commission will partner with residents, businesses, environmental groups, the University of Mary Washington, and City government. The Commission will incorporate outreach and education for citizens and businesses aimed at civic engagement and innovation that fosters a city-wide culture of forward thinking, sustainable resource management.
Members & Regulations
Thirteen members shall be appointed by the City Council, of whom nine shall be voting members appointed by the City Council, of whom nine shall be voting members.
Seven Voting members shall be residents of Fredericksburg.
One member shall be an arborist or a person with experience in arboriculture.
One voting member shall be a member of City Council.
Three ex officio members shall be appointed by the City Manager with a preference for one each from the Public Works Department, the Planning and Community Development Department and the Parks, Recreation and Public Facilities Department.
One ex officio member shall be a member of the R-Board staff.
The terms of office of the voting members shall be four years.
The membership of the Fredericksburg Clean and Green Commission shall serve at the pleasure of the City Council.
